The seeds of the gardens were sowed by Jenny Fitch in 1980 when she planted hundreds of daffodils behind the Restaurant. Since then, the gardens have bloomed and expanded into her legacy. And Jenny Fitch came across the Fearrington property and fell in love with the charming European-style land.

However, since membership is only granted to inn and restaurant pairings, the Fitches built the Fearrington House Inn in 1986 and received Relais & Châteaux affiliation in 1988. Not sure what this was rated, but I'd give it a solid 3 stars. If it had a pool and a gym and free parking, I'd rate it even higher. They were quite responsive to our requests to clean room 2x while we stayed there 5 nights. We needed extra towels each day and this was not a problem for them. Was surprised to see a combo bathtub/shower as most hotels have ditched bathtubs. Our afternoon tea menu features loose leaf and herbal teas, in addition to alternative drinks and kid-friendly options.
